Whakate Is All About Designing Your Life

Just as you can design a product or a service, we believe that you can also design and customize your life. Since “time is the stuff that life is made of” (Benjamin Franklin), life design has much to do with how we spend our time to get the right things done.

Design is often a question of trade-offs and addressing conflicting goals: If we design a car, making it lighter may make it more fuel-efficient, but also less safe.

Life Design is the process of

  • taking your goals, aspirations, responsibilities, and commitments
  • organizing them and your everyday life
  • balancing your conflicting priorities
  • making best use of your time

instead of leaving it all to chance.

The Whakate Project

We are a team of experienced professional managers and entrepreneurs in the world of enterprise software, wine-making and marketing who came together and created the Whakate Project because we couldn’t find the life design resources we were looking for on the World Wide Web.

What we did find was an overwhelming number of websites, web logs and online publications dedicated to personal development, productivity and time management, tools, gadgets, systems and recipes. These range from the sober to the sensational, from the material to the spiritual; a few gems buried in a mountain of information, more chaff than wheat by several orders of magnitude. Even larger is the number of hours people spend wading through this online mass, digging for the gems and for something that is relevant.

What Makes Us Different

Contrary to automated syndication of content, our researchers and writers are following a defined, method-based approach. They

  • separate the wheat from the chaff.
  • uncover the real gems of wisdom.
  • track trends and make sense of them.
  • recall the overlooked or forgotten.
  • describe what is proven and relevant.

All this is done in a concise, crisp and understandable way, applicable immediately if it feels right to you, with resources made available for further investigation.

Funding Whakate

Taking the Whakate Project from the drawing board into existence is not cost free. For the time being, we are personally funding the project, but we hope to break even in the near future. Initially, this will be done by placing a limited amount of relevant advertising on our website. If you find Whakate useful, we would appreciate your donation to help us keep ads to a minimum.
