Perseverance
Most people give up too soon. Instead of giving up if something does not work as you expected, or if you are not as successful as you expected, try to find the reason for your failure. Eliminate that reason and try again. This may have to be repeated several times over, but ultimately you will be successful. Few people who tried a new endeavour were successful the very first time and most needed to repeat their efforts over and over again.
However, it is also important to avoid pursuing the impossible and to see and accept when a goal is simply unattainable. If you are five feet tall and have short legs and a tendency to be overweight, you will never become a professional ballet dancer, however hard you try. However, the danger of pursuing unattainable goals is small; only dreamers are really endangered.
But if you are trying to sell something that seems to interest prospective buyers and yet they don’t buy it in the end, keep trying. Find out what makes your prospects hesitate and address the problem, then try again. And again.
Your goal of designing a worthwhile life for yourself is attainable; keep trying and you will succeed.
