GTD’s Cult of the To-Do List
GTD enthusiasts and skeptics alike can find new tinder for the flames in this BBC News article. David Allen and his organisational system have been called everything from a “life saver” and “common sense, but distilled,” to a glorified to-do list whose high-priest has been laughing all the way to the bank; and this article provides plenty of proof for both sides of the argument. Despite the many users who have found the system helpful, “The Cult” cautions against getting too wrapped up in the bliss of organisation—at the expense of action. At the end of the day, no list is magical enough to complete the work for us, but GTD can give the right user the proper amount of control to keep track of tasks and get them rolling through.
Whether you consider Allen to be a saviour, charlatan, or a violator of the English language for siring the verb “to be actioned,” the article (and the reader comments) are well worth a look for anyone interested in current popular opinion on GTD.
