Online Resources in Personal Finance
Published: 22 January 2009 Author: Ana Gonzalez Ribeiro
These are times of economic turmoil and to help navigate it, Whakate has researched and compiled several personal finance websites and blogs.
One of the best is the Wall Street Journal’s Crunchonomics hub site. It is a great resource for advice, information and news on anything with an impact on personal finance. Featured articles cover topics on mortgage advice, taxes, credit card tips, careers, business and even time, to name just a few.
Started by a man deep in debt and looking for financial knowledge, Get Rich Slowly.org was named one of the most inspiring money blogs by Money magazine. This site is devoted to sensible personal finance and provides advice on debt elimination, savings, practical investing and book reviews.
Mint.com/blog tells us how to sell off stocks during a financial crisis and how to practice cost consciousness. It also provides information on student loans and how to lower credit card interest by analysing spending and payment history. Fool.com has information on stock investing, research, and articles on how to prepare for life’s surprises, both good and bad. Zenhabits.net has great tips on debt elimination and frugal living. For readers looking for better ways to save, The Digerati Life.com provides straightforward, frugal steps you may take.
To find personal finance tips that have worked for others, there’s the The Simple Dollar.com. This site suggests that in times of economic instability, the best place to invest is in yourself by adding to or advancing your skills. With problems in the job market, people are looking for ways to either get back in the market or find ways to stay in it. Money.cnn.com explains how to handle a layoff or get yourself back in the workforce. Kiplinger.com has excellent ways to recession-proof careers, and also provides jobs that offer more security.
Undoubtedly, the present outlook on the economy can make anyone feel a bit down, but with knowledge and preparation there are steps we can all take for a better future. Doing this can help change our attitude into a more positive and optimistic one.
If any of these sites proved helpful, feel free to let us know!
